Capybarista develops independent apps for iOS and macOS, including Checkpoint, Newen, and DayPeek. The core idea is simple: build useful tools that respect user privacy by default.
General information
Capybarista apps are released on the App Store under the developer’s personal account. When building these apps, I make product and engineering decisions that minimize the information requested, processed, or shared.
No accounts or user profiles
You do not need to create an account to use our apps. Capybarista does not maintain user profiles. Your personal notes, objectives, photos, and game library are not stored in our catalog service. Checkpoint game lookup uses a service we operate, as explained below.
Storage and sync
The data you enter in the apps is stored locally on the devices where you use them. When an app offers sync across devices, that sync is handled through iCloud, specifically CloudKit, using the private database associated with your Apple account. Capybarista cannot read or manage that private content.
Personal information
Our apps do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, precise location, or financial information to use their features, and do not create custom user identifiers. Game lookup processes the text you type, and service providers receive technical connection data, as detailed below. We do not sell personal data or share information for advertising.
Game lookup in Checkpoint
Starting with Checkpoint 1.9, when you type at least three characters of a title in the game form, the app sends the search text over HTTPS to a Capybarista service hosted on Cloudflare. This service queries IGDB for game names and covers unless it can reuse a cached result. We send only the search text to IGDB; we do not forward your IP address or device headers. Your personal notes, objectives, photos, and library are not sent through this feature. You do not need a Twitch account. You can also add games manually while offline.
Cache and covers
The service holds search text and results in a shared memory cache without linking them to accounts or device identifiers. It may reuse results for 24 hours, or for 5 minutes if no matches were found. These periods determine when the catalog is queried again; entries are discarded when replaced or evicted from the cache, or when the service instance is cleared. Searches are not saved to an on-disk database. Covers are downloaded directly from IGDB’s image provider, which receives your IP address and request details. Covers you save are kept with your local library and may appear in widgets and backups you export.
Providers and technical logs
Cloudflare hosts and protects the catalog service; IGDB, a Twitch service, provides game data and images. Providers may process IP addresses and request metadata to deliver and protect their services. Application logs for the catalog service are disabled, and its code does not log queries, IP addresses, or user identifiers. This does not remove technical or security records providers may retain under their own policies. Their retention periods and privacy choices are described in the links below. Requests may be processed in countries other than your own.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
Our current apps do not use advertising networks, tracking tools, or third-party SDKs to analyze your activity. We do not track users across apps or websites.
Apple Health / HealthKit
Some Capybarista apps may offer optional integrations with Apple Health using HealthKit. In this version, Newen can save new mood check-ins as State of Mind entries in Apple Health if you enable Apple Health sync and grant permission. This integration is off by default. Newen does not read Apple Health data in this version, does not upload HealthKit data to Capybarista servers, and does not share HealthKit data with third parties. Notes, tags, contexts, and historical mood entries are not exported to Apple Health. You can disable Apple Health access at any time from Newen settings or from Apple’s Health privacy settings on your device.
Deleting data
You can delete saved personal content from within the app, by deleting the app from your device, or by managing iCloud data in Apple settings, as applicable. If you disable iCloud for an app, sync across devices may stop working. Backups you export are managed separately wherever you save them. Deleting the app does not delete the shared catalog cache or providers’ infrastructure logs. You can ask about access or deletion through the contact channel at the end of this policy.
Cookies and this website
This website is a static site used to present Capybarista apps and host this privacy policy. It is not designed to create accounts, collect personal information, or store first-party tracking cookies.
Changes and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy if our apps, features, or data practices change. For privacy questions, use the support channel listed on the App Store page for the relevant app. When Capybarista has a public support email, we will also add it to this page.
